Givenchy Heir Marries Korean-American in Paris Ceremony

Sean Taffin de Givenchy, a descendant of the founder of the French luxury brand Givenchy, recently tied the knot with his Korean-American partner Jung Da-hye. The couple's wedding ceremony was marked by a blend of cultural influences and high fashion, with Jung donning a wedding dress designed by a Korean-American designer for the grand event.
The couple celebrated their union in Paris, France, last August, as reported by British daily Daily Mail and fashion magazine British Vogue. The late 20-something pair, born in the same year, first met in 2018 at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Although they did not attend the same business administration class, they connected during a welcome party.

After a six-year relationship, the couple held a simple wedding ceremony in February last year at a New York court, inviting close family and friends. This event served as a prelude to their more elaborate Paris wedding. During the New York ceremony, Jung wore a white dress sourced from New York’s Soho district paired with a mini Kenny bag from Givenchy, symbolizing her respect for her husband’s family heritage.
New York played a significant role in the couple's story, given their multicultural backgrounds. In January, Jung shared with online magazine Over the Moon, “New York is a place full of diversity, and even when I first arrived from Seoul, I felt welcomed.” She added, “I was born in Seoul, South Korea, and grew up in the U.S. and Canada, while Sean was born and raised in France but influenced by his mother, Suzi de Givenchy, who was born in Hong Kong and raised in New York.”

Their Paris wedding was an extravagant affair, spanning three days from August 28 to 30. Details of the ceremony and photos were recently released through media outlets. The rehearsal dinner on the first day took place at Michelin-starred restaurant La Fontaine Gaillon in Paris. Jung wore a Victoria Beckham dress paired with an ivory jacket from the Korean brand ‘Kimhekim.’ She explained, “I had been eyeing it for a long time. It’s a classic jacket with feminine pearl details on the front.”
The main wedding ceremony was held at Basilique Sainte-Clotilde in central Paris. Sean mentioned, “Both Da-hye and I grew up as Catholics and wanted to hold a mass ceremony. The church is in the neighborhood where our family lives and has been the venue for important events in the past.”
Jung wore a tube-top silk dress with exposed shoulders and a cape featuring voluminous pleated decorations on both arms. The wedding dress was created by Korean-American designer Andrew Kwon. Jung and Kwon reportedly became close after meeting by chance at a U.S. wedding event, bonding over their shared connection to Korea. After visiting over 10 bridal shops in Manhattan for wedding preparations, Jung was drawn to Kwon’s design, and he spent one and a half years crafting a custom dress for her.

French media hailed the couple’s wedding as “the best society wedding of the year.” On the 18th, Jung shared on Instagram, “The wedding I dreamed of combined timeless classicism with Parisian sophistication. I created over 100 vision boards collecting inspiration every weekend, and the planner perfectly realized that vision.”
Sean’s father, Hubert Taffin de Givenchy, passed away in 2016. He was named after his uncle, Hubert de Givenchy, who founded Givenchy in 1952. Although Givenchy was acquired by the world’s largest luxury group, LVMH, in 1988, the family still maintains close ties to the fashion industry, according to Daily Mail.
